The aim of the present study was to evaluate the genetic architecture, genomic regions and candidate genes associated with body weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio in Japanese quails. For detection the informative genomic windows, genotyping data on 920 quails was used in a single-step genome-wide association study. The BLUPf90 family software was used to perform related analyses. Theresults was calculated based on the proportion of additive genetic variance (agv) explained by genomic region with an average size of 1.5-Mb of adjacent SNPs. Windows with accounting for more than 1% of the agv were used to identify genomic regions and to search for candidate genes. A total of 13 significant windows over 8 chromosomes were explained 23% of the agv for the body weight gain and including SMYD1, ADGRG6 and CFL2 candidate genes. A peak on CJA2 explained the largest proportion of variance. For feed intake, we identified 20 informative windows across 8 chromosomes and including ACSL, PPA2, FGF2 and RBL2 candidate genes. These regions explained 38% of the agv and a peak on CJA4 explained of agv. Also, for the feed conversion ratio, 12 significant windows were identified on 7 chromosomes and explained 23.7% of agv, contained ATRNL1 and PTPN4 candidate genes. Four genomic regions had a pleiotropic effect. Considering the identification of new genome regions and the key role of the mentioned genes related to feed intake, the single step method can be validated for GWAS in feed efficiency traits.

The purpose of this study was to fit different nonlinear models to describe growth curve and selection the best model to describe a growth curve for calves of Sistani calves. Body weight records of 241 calves (118 males and 123 females) collected by the Sistani Dairy Cattle Research Station of Zahak from year 2010 to 2017 were used. Four nonlinear models (Gompertz, Logistic, Richards, and Weibull) were fitted to the body weight records and the best model was selected by the goodness-of-fit criteria (Mean square error, Bayesian information criterion, Akaike information criterion and corrected coefficient of determination). According to goodness-of-fit criteria, Richards model was the most appropriate model to describe the growth curve in male and female calves. The effect of sex on curve parameters was significant in many functions (P <0.05). Logistic and Richards models had the highest and the lowest initial weight parameter, respectively. Male calves reached to the inflection point in a higher age and weight compared to female calves. According to the results of this study, a proper model can be used to study the growth pattern of this breed in order to better nutritional management and selection for rapid growth with high accuracy.

This study was conducted to investigate the weight changes, age and weight at first laying, the outer and inner egg characteristics of breeding station of Isfahan native chickens. Three hundred-day old native chickens were used in this survey. The experiment was started from the first day to the end of the 12 weeks of egg production (32 wks. of age). The results indicated that average age and weight of the first laying hens were 152.6 days and 2061.46 g, respectively. The overall average of the egg weight was 45.47 g in whole production period. The average number of eggs produced by each hen in 12 weeks of production period was 42. The range of hen production percentage in each week was 5.83 to 61.99 with an average of 45.44. The regression curves of height and diameter of yolk with production weeks were in order of second; with the weight of the hen's body, the white and yolk weight, and the shell thickness were of third order and with the rest of the traits were in forth order. Correlation of age at first egg with shell weight was high (r =0.99) and highly significant (P <0.001), but with total egg weight, the length and weight of the egg, and the height of yolk was negative and significant (P <0.05). The results of this experiment indicated the good production potential in some of these birds which proper breeding programs may led to improve their productivity.

Trend in body weight, thyroid hormones and some blood metabolites changes in broiler breeder hens after the peak egg production was studied. Blood samples from 20 Ross 308 broiler breeder hens, were investigated from 47 to 55 weeks of age. Plasma lipid profile including cholesterol, triglyceride, lipoprotein LDL, lipoprotein HDL, and also glucose concentrations were measured every two weeks, and plasma concentrations of triiodothyronine (T3) and tetradothyronine (T4), aspartate aminotransferase (GOT) and alanine aminotransferase (GPT) were measured at the beginning and at the end of the experimental period. Results showed that body weight and plasma concentration of glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, and LDL were increased, and concentrations of HDL were decreased (P<0.05) over the experimental period. Plasma T4 concentrations were decreased with age of the birds (P<0.05), while T3 concentrations were not affected. Plasma GOT and GPT enzymes activities were increased over the experiment period (P<0.05). In general, by increasing of age and subsequently body weight of breeder hens, several major changes have been occurred in blood metabolites and metabolic hormones which could reduce production and reproduction of broiler breeder flocks.

Using 350 Ross broiler chickens, the effect of licorice extract (LE), probiotic, antifungal and boiler litter biochar on performance of broiler chickens fed aflatoxin B1 contaminated diet in a completely randomized design with 7 treatment (negative control (basal diet without aflatoxin and additives), positive control (basal diet + 1 mg aflatoxin B1 and without additives) and 5 other treatments were positive control with LE (3 and 6 g/kg), Protexin probiotic (0.5 gr), Agrabond (0.5 gr/kg) and biochar toxin binder (10 g/kg)) and 5 replicates (10 birds in each replicate) considered. The treatments were. The result showed that aflatoxin B1 lowered body weight gain and breast relative weight and increased FCR and abdominal fat of broilers (P < 0.05). Broilers fed negative control, 3 g/kg LE and biochar containing diets during the growing period and birds fed negative control and 3 g/kg LE during the entire period had higher BW and lower FCR as compared to other groups (P < 0.05). Negative control diet decreased breast relative weight and tight meat crude protein percent, while all of the additives led to improving these traits since the highest relative weight of breast and tight meat crude protein percent were observed in probiotic and biochar groups respectively (P < 0.05). The highest serum total protein was seen in broilers fed negative control and 3 g/kg LE diets while the lowest serum uric acid was observed in broilers fed negative control, 6 g/kg LE, Agrabond and biochar diets (P < 0.05). In conclusion, licorice extract and broiler litter biochar additives decreased adverse effects of aflatoxin B1 on broiler chickens performance.

The aim of this study was to map body weight QTLs with some microsatellite markers on chromosome 2 of Markhoz goats. For this purpose a total of 255 offspring including 129 male and 126 female from 8 half-sib sire families were genotyped for 6 microsatellite markers on chromosomes 2. Quantitative traits were included weights at birth, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months of age. Significant QTL effect was tested using the least squared regression approach using GridQTL (V3.3.0) software. In this study, one putative QTL were detected for weaning weight at 153 cM on chromosome 2 (P<0.01). QTL effect was 4.99 in units of residual standard deviation. The position of this QTL was between the IDVGA64 and OarFCB011 and its distance was measured 10 cM of IDVGA64 markers. In the present study any pleiotropic effect of this QTL with other traits were not recognized. It is expected that future genome wide scan with larger individual per family will help identify pleotropic effects and other QTLs associated with these traits and will provide useful markers for marker-assisted selection of such important traits. According to ensure high confidence interval (CM = 25 cM) Offer is not valid candidate genes for QTL set and is recommended for accurate determination of the QTL in future studies of more offspring in the family are applied.

This research was conducted to study genetic and phenotypic relationships between growth curve parameters in Mehraban sheep. The data set used in this study were obtained from the Agricultural Organization of Hamedan province and comprised 35414 body weight records from birth to 365 days of age during 2001to 2011. Parameters of Brody growth model were studied which included A (asymptotic mature weight or average mature weight of animal), B (proportion of asymptotic mature weight to weight gain as a percent of mature weight) and K (growth rate until reaching to mature weight). Fixed factors affecting on growth curve parameters were identified using the GLM procedure of SAS software. The model of genetic analysis included direct genetic effect, maternal genetic effect, maternal permanent environmental effect and covariance between direct genetic and maternal genetic effects. To estimate genetic relationship between growth curve parameters, Bayesian method based on Gibbs sampling was used. Direct heritabilities for growth curve parameters of A, B and K were 0.29, 0.63 and 0.27, respectively. Direct genetic correlation between A and B was positive and high (0.58), which indicates that these traits are aligned with each other while the correlations between B and K (-0.69) and between A and K (-0.54) were negative. The results indicated that improvement of growth curve parameters of Mehraban sheep is possible in selection programs. Therefore, it is worthwhile to propose an optimum selection strategy for obtaining appropriate growth curve in Mehraban sheep through changing genetically the model parameters.

A total of 2000 records of egg quality of 746 birds and body weight data from 17th generation of Fars Native Fowl Breeding Station were used to estimate the genetic parameters of egg quality and body weight traits. Six univariate animal models with different random effects were fitted for each trait. A model with direct additive genetic and maternal permanent environmental effects was the most appropriate model for mature weight. For body weight in 12th week, the model with direct additive genetic, maternal genetic and maternal permanent environmental effects was suitable. The model with direct additive genetic and maternal genetic effects was appropriate for albumen diameter, yolk weight and egg weight. For other traits, the simple animal model with direct animal additive genetic effect was the best model. Estimates of heritability were ranged from 0.02 (yolk weight) to 0.23 (albumen index) for internal egg quality and were ranged from 0.01 (egg weight) to 0.43 (egg shell strength) for external egg quality traits. These parameters were estimated 0.03, 0.07 and 0.18 for mature weight, body weights at 8th and 12th weeks, respectively. Genetic correlations between egg quality and body weight traits ranged from -0.79 to 0.80. In conclusion, selection based on the body weights at 8th and 12th weeks increases the egg weight, egg width and egg shape index. Selection for body weight in 12th week would increase the albumen weight and yolk diameters.

The transforming growth factor B (TGFB) subfamily is one of the most important groups of genes that are involved in development of growth and cell differentiation. In order to detect polymorphism in TGFB3 loci, blood samples were collected randomly from 160 breeder hens of Mazandarn native fowls breeding station. DNA was extracted using modified salting out method and a DNA fragment of 295 bp from TGFB3 loci was amplified (part of intron 3, exon 4 and small part of intron 4) using a specific primer pairs. The digested amplified fragment with BsiYI enzyme revealed two + and – alleles with the frequency of 0.8037 and 0.1961, respectively. The frequencies of "+/+", "+/-" and "-/-" genotypes were estimated at 0.6645, 0.2784 and 0.0569, respectively in studied population. The statistical analysis showed that the existence of one + allele in the genotypes significantly (P ? 0.05) increased the means of body weight at one day and eight week of age in comparison with "-/-" genotype which indicates the importance of this allele in body weight gain in chickens. It can be concluded that the studied marker site, together with the other documented variants in TGFB3 locus, can be very useful to obtain a better understanding of the genetic control of growth rate in chickens.
