The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of emulsifier in diet with with energy reduction on performance, carcass characteristics and some of blood traits of broilers. A total of 540 one-day-old chicks of Ross 308 strain in a 3×3 factorial arrangement with three levels of emulsifier (0, 250 and 500 mg / kg) and three levels of dietary energy (requirement, and 45 and 90 kcal/Kg, 60 and 105 kcal/kg and 75 and 120 kcal/kg less than requirement for the starter, grower and finisher diets, respectively) in a completely randomized design with 9 treatments, 4 replications and 15 birds per replication were used. In total rearing period, feed intake increased by decreasing the dietary energy (P<0.05). Birds fed diets supplemented by emulsifier had higher weight gain and lower feed conversion ratio (P<0.05). The relative weights of the liver, ceca, and abdominal fat were not affected by different levels of dietary energy. The emulsifier × diet interaction had no significant effect on cholesterol, High-density lipoprotein (HDL), Low-density lipoprotein (LDL), cholesterol: HDL, Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and alkaline Phosphatase. Adding emulsifier to normal diets or diets with more energy deficiency increased blood triglyceride concentration (P<0.05). Supplementing diets with mild energy deficiency by emulsifier increased serum Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) (P<0.05). According to the results, the use of 250 gr/t emulsifier in low energy diets improved the performance of broiler chickens.

Effect of organic selenium and chromium supplementation on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat quality of broiler chickens was studied using 200 one-day-old Ross 308 male broiler chickens in a 2×2 factorial arrangements with 4 treatments, 5 replicates and 10 birds each. Experimental treatments were including 2 levels of Se-Met (0 and 0.4 mg/kg diet) and 2 levels of Cr-Met (0 and 0.4 mg/kg diet). At the end of trial, two birds per replicates were randomly selected and slaughtered to determine carcass traits and meat quality. Cr-Met supplementation increased feed intake during the grower and the whole period (P<0.05). The birds receiving 0.4 mg/kg of Se-Met and Cr-Met diets had the highest body weight gain (BWG) and the lowest feed conversion ratio (FCR) in the grower, finisher and whole periods (P<0.05). The highest BWG and the lowest FCR in whole period belonged to the birds fed by both elements (P<0.05). The highest relative weight of carcass and breast was observed in birds fed with Se-Met and Cr-Met (P<0.05). The highest relative weight of carcass was seen in birds fed both elements (P<0.05). Addition of Se-Met and Cr-Met increased the moisture and water holding capacity and decreased the cooking loss and malondialdehyde (MDA) content of breast meat (P<0.05). The interaction effect of treatments on meat quality was significant, as the highest water holding capacity and the lowest cooking loss and MDA was seen in broilers fed by both Cr-Met and Se-Met (P<0.05). According to the results of this experiment, it is suggested to add Se-Met and Cr-Met to diet to improve growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality and stability of broiler chickens.

The effect of Betaplus probiotic levels in the diet on growth performance and histomorphometry of Japanese quail jejunum was investigated by using 288 broiler chicks with six treatments of four replications and 12 birds per each in a completely randomized design from one to 42 days of age. Treatments included: control group (without additives); three diets containing levels of 0.5, 1 and 1.5 g/kg of Betaplus probiotic; diet with deficient in protein, and diet with deficient in protein and contained 1 g/kg of Betaplus. Feed intake, body weight and increase body weight were measured weekly and conversion factor was calculated. At 42 days of age, two birds were randomly selected from each replicate and the traits related to carcass dissection were assessed. For histomorphometrical evaluation of the intestine, the jejunum samples were collected. The utility of betaplus probiotic at level 1 g/kg improved food intake, weight gain, conversion factor and some histomorphometrical parameters of jejunum (p <0.05), In birds were feed with level of 1.5 g/kg Betaplus, the villi thickness and crypt diameter and number of the goblet cells were decreased (p <0.05). According to the results, the use of Betaplus probiotic at level 1 g/kg in the diet improves the growth performance and histological parameters of the jejunum in Japanese quail.

The effects of seeds and whole plant powder and extract of Milk thistle (MT) plant in reducing the negative effects of feeding 500 ppb aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) on broiler chickens performance, carcass characteristics and some blood parameters were examined using 192 one-day old chick (Ross 308) in a completely randomized design with six treatments, four replicates and 8 birds per repetition. The experimental treatments included: 1) control, 2) contaminated control (CC), 3) CC + 0.5 percent of MT seed powder, 4) CC + 1 percent MT plant powder, 5) CC + 600mg/kg MT plant extract, 6) CC + 1000mg/kg MT plant extract. Results indicated that feeding contaminated diet reduced body weight gain and increased the feed conversion ratio and alanine aminotransferase enzyme compared with control in whole experimental period (P≤0.05). The inclusion of 1 percent MT plant powder to the contaminated diets improved weight gain and feed conversion ratio in 1-7, 7-21 days and whole experimental period (1-35 days) compared to the contaminated control (P≤0.05). The addition of 0.5 percent MT seed powder, 1 percent MT plant powder and 1000mg/kg MT plant extract to the contaminated diets decreased alanine aminotransferase enzyme (at 35d) compared to the contaminated control (P≤0.05). It was concluded that compared to other treatments, one percent MT plant powder was more effective in reducing the negative effects of feeding AFB1 in broiler chickens.

The aim of this study was to investigate the processing methods of sorghum grain and diet formulation on performance and nutrients digestibility in broilers. Three hundred and twenty chicks at eight day of age were allotted into eight groups of four replicate with ten chicks per replicate. This research was conducted as completely randomized design arranged in a 2 × 2 × 2 factorial experiment using formulation method (total vs. digestible amino acids), Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP, 0 vs. 1%) and acid treatment (0 vs. 2%, acetic and propionic acid, 60:40 mixture). Main effects of addition of PVP and acid treatment of sorghum and formulation based on digestible amino acids significantly improved feed conversion ratio and average daily gain during the finishing period (22 to 42 d.) and the overall feeding periods (8 to 42 d.; P≤0.05). Also, acid treatment of sorghum and formulation based on digestible amino acid significantly improved nutrients digestibility during the finishing period (22 to 42 d.) and the overall feeding periods (8 to 42 d.) (P≤0.05). Addition of PVP or acid treatment resulted in a decrease in the weight of pancreas (P≤0.05). The interaction effect of PVP, acid and method of diet formulation was not significant on any performance parameters. The data showed that diet formulation based on digestible amino acid can be more advisable in comparison to sorghum grain processing methods. It can be because of no need for additional processing costs and having the same performance results.
