In order to investigate the effect of vitamin E and vitamin E nanoliposomes on the expression of the STAR gene in testis and TSPO gene in the ovary of Japanese quail, an experiment using 864 pieces of quail for 10 weeks in a completely randomized design with six treatments, six replications and 24 Breeding quail (16 females and eight males) was performed in each replication. The treatments were fed diets containing different levels of vitamin E (25, 50 and 100 IU per kg of diet) and vitamin E nanoliposomes (25, 50 and 100 IU per kg of diet). The results of this study showed that the effect of the experimental treatments on the expression of TSPO gene in the ovary and STAR gene in the testis was significant (P<0.05). The addition of 50 IU of vitamin E significantly increased TSPO gene expression in the ovary compared to the control treatment (P<0.05). The results also showed that the level of 25 IU nanoliposome of vitamin E increased the expression of TSPO gene in the ovary, which was not significantly different from the control treatment. The use of vitamin E and vitamin E nanoliposome levels significantly decreased the expression of STAR gene in the testis of Japanese quail (P<0.05). According to the results of this study, the addition of 25 IU vitamin E nanoliposomes as well as 50 and 100 IU levels of vitamin E has a significant effect on the expression of TSPO gene in the ovary, which is one of the genes affecting fertility and reproduction.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary supplemented with zinc oxide (0, 40, 80, 120 and 160 mg /kg of diet) and vitamin E (Vit E; α-tocopherol acetate; 0 and 40 IU/kg of diet) on fertility and hatchability of Japanese quails, and growth performance and immune response of their progenies. A total of 960 Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) 70 d of age were housed in cages and randomly allocated to 10 treatments with 4 replicates of 24 birds in each (sixteen females and eight males). Dietary supplemented zinc and Vit E significantly increased hatchability (P≤0.05). There was a significant effect of Vit E on breeder quails fertility, while zinc supplementation was reduced embryonic mortality at the second stage (10-16 day) (P≤0.05). Supplemental zinc significantly improved feed conversion ratio of offspring in the first three weeks of age, while added Vit E improved feed conversion ratio only in the first week of offspring growth (P≤0.05). Dietary supplementation of Japanese quail’s ration with zinc and Vit E increased immune response of offspring, and enriched Zn content of tibia bone of offspring increased with zinc supplementation. In conclusion, supplementing breeder Japanese quails ration with zinc and Vit E improved hatchability and growth performance and immune response of offspring.

The goal of this paper was to study the effect of ginger extracts and vitamin E on the performance of ovine Spermatogonial Stem Cells (SSCs). For this purpose, different concentrations of hydro and hydroethanolic extracts of ginger and vitamin E on viability, colony formation and expression of inhibiting (bcl2ll and bcl2)and inducing (bax) apoptosisgenes were studied. Spermatogonial Stem Cells (SSCs) were extracted from lamb testes with slaughterhouse origin using two steps enzymatic digestion method and enrichment by differential plating method. The characterization of SSCs was carried by alkaline phosphatase staining and expression of c-kit and oct-4 genes. Results have shown that the viability of SSCs was decreased significantly by using more than 800 µg/mL of hydroethanolic extract of ginger, in comparision with control group (P<0.05), while 800 µg/mL of hydro extract of ginger has been resulted to be the most viable cells, and increasing the vitamin E concentration (upto 100 µg/mL) resulted to be the most survival of SSCs. Expression of bax in effective concentration of hydro extract of ginger (150 µg/mL) and vitamin E (50 µg/mL) was decreased, but hydroethanolic extract of ginger (150 µg/mL) and higher concentration of hydro extract of ginger (more than 800 µg/mL) increased the expression od bax. Based on the results of current study, 150 µg/mL of aqueous extract of ginger or 50 µg/mL of vitamin E can be used to improve ovine SSC culture system.

Two experiments were conducted to determine the AME content of garlic powder and to investigate its effect as well as vitamin E and Loxidan (as a commercial antioxidant) supplemented in the diet, on growth performance, carcass analysis and meat oxidative stability. In the first experiment, the AME was determined in Leghorn roosters fed diets containing 5, 10, 15 and 20% of garlic powder, whose value appeared to be 2370, 2300, 2090 and 2065 kcal/kg, respectively. In the second experiment, a 2×2×2 factorial arrangement including two levels of garlic powder (0 and 2 percent), two levels of vitamin E (0 and 200 mg/kg), and two levels of Loxidan (0 and 200 mg/kg) were employed in four replicates and twelve broiler chicks in each. According to results, growth performance, the ratio of eviscerated carcass, breast, thigh and abdominal fat to live weight were not affected by garlic powder, vitamin E and antioxidant as they were applied individually. However, applying garlic powder along with Loxidan resulted in better daily weight gain (P<0.05). Moreover, using vitamin E along with Loxidan in diets led to meat oxidative stability (P<0.05). The findings of this study indicate that dietary individual supplementation of garlic powder in diet has no effect on growth performance, while using vitamin E and Loxidan may improve some characteristics such as meat oxidative stability.

An experiment was conducted to determine of the effects of vitamin E and C supplementation in diet based on different source of oils on performance and serum parameters of broilers. A total of 320 broiler chicks (Strain Ross 308) used in a 2×2×2 factorial arrangement in the form of completely randomized design with eight treatments, four replicates and 10 chicks in each replicate. Experimental factors included: two different oil sources (soybean and canola), two levels of vitamin E (zero and 200 mg/kg), and two levels of vitamin C (0 and 1000 mg/kg). Oil sources and vitamin E and C had no effect on performance of broilers. Supplementation of vitamin E or C increased serum total cholesterol and HDL (P<0.05). Source of oil had no significant effect on glucose and total serum cholesterol. Broilers fed diet containing canola oil had higher HDL and lower serum malondialdehyde than those fed diets with soybean oil (P<0.01). Supplementation of vitamin C to the diets containing canola oil decreased serum triglyceride compared with diets include soybean oil and vitamin C (P<0.05). Supplementation of vitamin E decreased serum malondialdehyde and increased activity of glutathione peroxidase (P<0.05). Results of this study indicate that dietary supplementation of canola oil, vitamin C or E to broiler diet increased serum HDL and vitamin E decreased oxidation of serum lipids by improving antioxidant system.

In order to investigate the effects of Artichoke leaf powder and vitamin Eon performance, internal organs relative weight and some blood parameters, 240 day-old quails were assigned to four treatments including, basal diet (control), basal diet supplemented with levels of 1.5 and 3 percent of Artichoke leaf powder and basal diet supplemented with 300 mg/Kg diet vitamin E with four replicates and 15 birds in each in a completely randomized design. Birds receiving diet supplemented with vitamin E showed greater body weight gain than other treatments (P<0.05). No significant different was observed in body weight gain between birds receiving diets supplemented with Artichoke leaf powder and those birds received control diet, throughout the experiment. Birds treated with diet containing three percent Artichoke leaf powder had higher feed conversion rate (P<0.05). The concentrations of albumin and HDL were greater in blood serum of birds fed diet containing 1.5 percent Artichoke leaf powder compare to other treatments (P<0.05). According to the results of this study, using Artichoke leaf powder till three percent has no negative effect on feed intake and weight gain throughout the study (1-42 d). Inclusion of 300 mg/kg vitamin E in the diet of Japanese quail improves growth performance during the first three weeks of study.
