Effect of prebiotic and extract of three medicinal plants: Chamomile, Oregano, and Marjoram on the performance, intestinal histomorphology, and blood parameters of laying hens in the late phase of production, by using 60 TETRA-SL brown-egg laying with 80-week-olds, in a completely randomizes design containing five treatments and four replicates with three birds in each experimental unit for eight weeks were investigated. Prebiotic was added at 0.5 g/kg of diet, and medicinal plant extracts in a ratio of 1:1000 were added to the drinking water of birds. Quantitative indicators at the end of each week and quality indexes at the last week of the experiment were measured. At the end of the experiment, blood was taken from one bird in each experimental unit, and the birds were slaughtered to study the intestinal bacterial population and histomorphology. The effect of experimental treatments on the quantity and quality of produced eggs was not significant (p < 0.05). Blood cholesterol and yolk cholesterol were lower in the chamomile extract-receiving birds than in the other experimental groups (p < 0.05). The population of E. coli and coliforms in the intestine of marjoram extract-receiving birds was lower than other treatments (p < 0.05). Prebiotic treatment increased the villus height in the duodenum and ileum, and the marjoram extract increased the villus height in the ileum (p < 0.05). According to the result, the use of chamomile extract can reduce the yolk cholesterol level, and the use of prebiotic and marjoram extract improves the microbial flora and intestinal histomorphology in laying hens.

The effects of different sources of selenium supplementation and rosemary essential oil on growth performance, microflora population and intestinal morphology in broiler chicken with using of 480 male broiler chicks in a factorial arrangement (2x5) with 10 treatments and 4 replicates were investigated. Two experimental factors consisted of different sources of selenium (level of 0.3 mg/kg of diet from selenomethionine, nanoselenomethionine, selenitsodium, nano selenium bonza and without selenium) and rosemary essential oil (0 and 300 mg/kg of diet). Results showed that broilers received diet of without Se and rosemary essential oil had lower weight gain and feed intake.Broilers received diet of nano selenium bonza with rosemary essential oil had lower feed conversion ratio as compared to the other broilers (P<0.05). Broilers fed on diets of nanoselenomethionine with rosemary essential oil and nano selenium bonza with rosemary essential oil were increased villus height in jejunum (P<0.05). The crypt depth of intestinal in birds which received nanoselenium was more than the birds that consumed other sources of selenium in the diet (P<0.05). Crypt diameter nano selenium bonza with rosemary essential oil treatment was higher as compared to other treatments (P<0.01). Selenomethionine and nanoselenomethionine alone and in combination with rosemary essential oil treatments had high lactobacillus population and lactobacillus population to total microbial population ratio of ileum as compared to without Se and rosemary essential oil treatment (P<0.05). Based on the results, inclusion nanoselenium (0.3 mg/kg) supplement with rosemary essential oil (300 mg/kg) into the diet of broiler chicken can improve performance, gut morphology and microflora.

In order to investigate the effect of surplus jujube meal with or without Rovabio enzyme on growth performance, carcass traits and ileum morphology in broiler chicken; 320 male broiler chicks of Ross 308 were assigned to eight treatments, four replicates and 10 birds per each. The treatments included four levels of surplus jujube meal (0, 4, 7 and 10 percent) and two levels of Rovabio multi-enzyme (0 and 0.1 percent). The data were analyzed based on completely randomized design in factorial arrangement (2×4). The results showed that the birds fed diet containing 10% jujube with enzyme had a higher feed intake in the grower, finisher and whole periods as compared to control (no jujube and enzyme treatment; P<0.05). The main effect and interactions of enzymes and jujube had no effect on weight gain and feed conversion ratio. However, in the starter period when the birds fed diet contained 10% jujube along with enzyme, a higher weight gain than control was observed (P<0.05). Supplementation of 4% Jujube with enzyme increased the percentage of breast and the level of 7% jujube reduced abdominal fat compared to control (P<0.05). Compared to control, the birds fed diets containing 10% jujube with the enzyme had higher and lower villus height and width respectively (P<0.05). The ratio of villus height to crypt depth was the highest in birds fed enzyme (P<0.05). It is concluded that adding 10% of jujube to the diet of broiler chickens and supplementing it with enzyme could improve the performance and meat quality of broiler chicken.
