The effect of thymus vulgaris essential oil (TEO) and rapeseed oil (RO) on performance, immune traits and intestinal morphology using 432 one-day-old Ross 308 male broiler as a (3×3) factorial experiment in a completely randomized design including different levels of TEO (zero, 300 and 500 ppm) and RO (1, 3 and 5 percentage) were evaluated with nine treatments and four replicates. Throughout the rearing period, broiler chickens receiving 3% gained more weight than 1% of RO and chickens receiving 300 ppm gained more weight than those without TEO (P˂0.05). The use of 3% RO + 300 ppm TEO increased the thigh percentage compared to 1% RO. At 1 and 5 percentage levels of RO, with increasing levels of TEO in the diet, blood cholesterol and LDL concentrations decreased and blood HDL increased (P <0.01). Levels of 3% and 5% of RO + 300 and 500 ppm of TEO in broiler chicken diets increased lymphocyte percentage and antibody titer against Newcastle disease and decreased heterophil percentage and heterophil to lymphocyte ratio of blood (P <0.05). Broiler chickens receiving diet containing TEO had the highest ratio of villi height to crypt depth (P <0.01). Based on the results, the level of 3% rapeseed oil + 300 ppm thyme essential oil in the diet of broiler chickens can be used to improve performance, immunity and biochemical traits of blood.

The current study aimed to investigate the effects of adding probiotic and encapsulated thyme essential oil (TEO) on growth performance and immune responses of broiler chicks by multi attribute decision making (MADM). In the current study, 420 broiler chicks were allocated into 7 experimental groups with 6 replication and 10 broiler chicks per replication for 42 days. The experimental treatments were included 1) diet lack of TEO and probiotic (control), 2) diet containing 100 mg probiotic, 3) diet containing 100 mg TEO, 4) diet containing 200 mg probiotic, 5) diet containing 200 mg TEO, 6) diet containing 100 mg probiotic+100 mg TEO, and 7) diet containing 200 mg TEO+ 200 mg probiotic. Growth performance and humoral immune responses were investigated. Index weights for weight gain, feed conversion ratio, production index were 0.2, 0.15 and 0.25, respectively and index weight of 0.1 was considered for other parameters. Based on obtained results, coefficients for control, probiotic 100, TEO 100, probiotic 200, TEO 200, probiotic 100 + TEO 100 and probiotic 200 + TEO 200 were 0.0476, 0.126, 0.198, 0.315, 0.427, 0.727 and 0.956, respectively. Thus, adding 100 mg probiotic and 100 mg TEO into diet increased immune response and growth performance. Based on obtained results, it is suggested that dietary inclusion of 100 mg TEO + 100 mg probiotic into diet of broiler chicks has a potential to improve immune response and growth performance.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of toxin binders and prebiotics on growth performance, intestinal microbial population, stress and antioxidant indexes of broiler chicks fed diets contaminated with aflatoxin B1. In this study, 600 1-d-old mixed broiler chicks (Ross 308) were investigated in 10 treatments with 6 replications and 10 chicks per replication. Experimental treatments included: Negative controls un-supplemented and supplemented with ASRI1 and ASRI2 toxin binders and prebiotic and positive groups un-supplemented and supplemented with ASRI1 and ASRI2 toxin binders and prebiotic, ASRI1 +prebiotic and ASRI2 +prebiotic. Growth performance, stress indexes of heterophile, lymphocyte, bacterial population and stress indexes of super oxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were investigated. Dietary inclusion of aflatoxin into diet increased heterophile (P<0.05), heterophile:lymphocyte ratio (P<0.05) and decreased lymphocyte (P<0.05), but toxin binders and prebiotic decreased effects of aflatoxin on heterophile and lymphpocyte. The results showed that E. coli and lactobacilli were significantly higher and lower in positive control compared to negative control (P<0.05). The results also showed that the serum concentrations of antioxidant enzymes were significantly lower in negative control compared to positive control (P<0.05). In sum, aflatoxin showed negative effects on growth performance, intestinal microbial populations, stress and antioxidant indexes but toxin binders and prebiotic decreased its negative effects and inclusion of ASRI1(3kg/ton) was better than other toxin binder.

The effects of increasing levels of L-leucine supplementation on performance, carcass traits, breast meat production and determination of digestible leucine requirement broilers during the grower period (15 to 30 days) using 240 Ross males broiler chickens in a completely randomized design with six dietary treatments (five repetitions and eight chicks per repetition) was investigated. Treatments include; a basal diet with 1.53% digestible leucine and five diets containing 1.63, 1.73, 1.83, 1.93, and 2.03% digestible leucine by adding synthetic L-leucine to the basal diet. By increasing the levels of digetible Leucin, body wieght gain, carcass and breast muscle percentage were increased, but feed conversion ratio and abominal fat percentage were decreasd (p < 0.05). The response trends to increasing levels of digestible leucine were quadratic for weight gain, feed conversion ratio, the relative weight of carcass, relative weight of breast muscle and relative weight of abdominal fat ( p < 0.05). Due to the better fit of the quadratic model to the response criteria, digestible Leucine requirements were estimated at 1.70, 1.72, 1.724, and 1.735% for body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, the relative weight of carcass and breast muscle; respectively. Based on the average of these estimates, the suggested digestible Leucine requirements of broilers in the grower period is 1.72%.

The objective of this experiment was to investigate the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Ferulago angulata (FA) as a substitute for common feed additive on performance and blood biochemical and hematological parameters of Ross 308 broilers. A total of 450 one-day-old male broiler chickens were used in a completely randomized design with six treatments and five replicates per treatment. The experimental treatments consisted of the basal diet with no additives (control); the basal diet containing Salinomycine antibiotic (500 mg/kg); Primalak® probiotic (recommended level), vitamin and mineral mixture (200 mg/kg of E and C vitamins and 0.3 mg/kg of selenium) and hydroalcoholic extract of FA at the levels of 200 and 400 mg/kg. During the entire experimental period, the birds fed diets with additives had better body weight gain and feed conversion ratio compared with the control birds (P<0.05). Feeding broiler chickens with experimental diets, except for the diet containing antibiotic, resulted in decreased concentrations of serum triglyceride and cholesterol compared with the control diet (P<0.05). The heterophil percentage and the heterophil to lymphocyte ratio decreased in the birds fed diets with evaluated additives, except for treatment containing 200 mg/kg of FA extract (P<0.05). Based on the results of this study, the FA extract, especially at the level of 400 mg/kg of diet, could be used as a suitable substitute for commercial dietary feed additives to improve growth performance and blood hematological and biochemical parameters of broilers.

The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of clove essential oil nanoemulsion (CEON) on performance of broiler chickens fed wheat-based diet. A total of 280 day-old broiler chicks (Ross 308, mix sex) were used in a completely randomized design with seven treatments and four replicats. The experimental treatments were; 1- control, 2- control supplemented with enzyme (En), 3- control supplemented with 200 mg/kg clove essential oil (CEO) and 4 to 7 were control supplemented with 200, 150, 100 and 50 mg/kg of CEON, respectively. The results of this experiment showed that in the whole rearing period, the feed intake and body weight gain of birds fed diets supplemented with 200 mg/kg CEON decreased significantly compared with control and En treatments (P≤0.05). In the whole period of experiment, chicks fed diets supplemented with CEO and 50 mg/kg CEON had better feed conversion ratio compared with control group (P≤0.05). Serum triglyceride concentration decreased significantly in chicks fed diets containing different levels of CEON compared to En treatment (P≤0.05). Relative weight of bursa increased in chicks fed diets containing CEO and 200 mg/kg CEON in comparison with control treatment. Supplementation broiler diets with CEO and 200, 150 and 100 mg/kg CEON decreased significantly Escherichia coli populations of cecal content (P≤0.05). According to the results of this experiment, supplementation broiler wheat-based diets with CEON may decrease Escherichia coli populations of cecal content.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different levels of borage (Echium amoenum) powder on performance,nutrient digestibility and some blood parameters in heat stressed broiler chickens. A total of 160, one-day-old male broiler chicken (Ross 308) were randomly allocated to 4 treatments with 4 replicates, 10 chicks each, in a completely randomized design. The dietary treatments consisted of: T1, basal diet (BD), T2, T3 and T4 were included BD plus 500, 1000 and 2000 mg/kgBW boragepowder, respectively. The birds reared at the same condition till 24-day of age. The birds were kept at 34°C±2 (9.00am to 17.00; for 8 hours) from 25 to 42 days of age. Dietary supplementation of 1000 mg/kg body weight (BW) ofborage powder increased body weight gain and significantly improved FCR compared to that of basal diet (P<0.05). Inclusion of 1000 mg/kg BW borage powder significantly (P<0.05) increased protein digestibility. Addition of 500 or 2000 mg/kgBW borage powder significantly increased lipid digestibility (P<0.05). Supplementation of diet with 1000 mg/kgBW borage powder significantly reduced (P<0.05) heterophile to lymphocyte ratio and increased glutathione peroxidase activity (P<0.05). Inclusion of 1000 mg/kgBW borage powder significantly (P<0.05) reduced relative weight of bursa fabricious and pancreas in broiler chickens. It was concluded that supplementation of diet with 1000 mg/kgBW borage powder improved performance, protein and lipid digestibility and decrease negative impact of heat stress in broiler chickens.

The effect of two types of dietary acidifier; Globacid®, Greencab® and their mixture on growth performance, carcass characteristics, nutrient digestibilities and intestinal microflora in broilers were studied by using hundred and twenty eight one-day old Cobb 500 broiler chickens of either sex, four treatments and four replicates of eight chicks in each in a completely randomized disign. The experimental treatments consisted of a basal diet; diet containing basal diet + 0.085 percent Globacid®; diet containing basal diet + 0.035 percent Greencab® and diet containing basal diet + mixture of 0.085 percent Globacid® and 0.035 percent Greencab®. The effect of treatments on growth performance, carcass characteristics and intestinal microflora was not significant and the higher digestibility of dry matter, organic matter and crude protein in comparison to control diet were seen in treatment containing the mixture of Globacid® and Greencan® acidifiers. According to the results of this study, the dietary mixture of Globacid® and Greencan® acidifiers can be useful in broilers by improving dry matter, organic matter and crude protein digestibilities and decreasing feed intake trend.
